ART Tips and Tricks

HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR CREATIVE WORKSPACE

001

In this sketch I drew what my creative workspace looks like. It is basically a desk in my room so it is not very big. Nevertheless, it inspires me enough to pick up my markers and a fresh set of paper and make some new art. In this article I want to give you a few tips on how to make the most of your creative workspace.

Nothing is more annoying than having an idea of something you want to create (whether that’s a drawing, some DIY or something written) and not having the means to do so. The most important rule to being creative/productive is having the things you need within arms reach. I did this by having my drawing stash in a basket next to my desk. It contains paper, some inspirational little scrapbooks, paint, my markers and a lot more (In the drawing you can see what else is in there). That way, I can go and start a drawing at any time and put it away again easily. Also very important if you make a basket like mine: make sure it is open in some way. If you put your things in a closed box, you are less likely to reach for them. I am constantly reminded of my love for drawing by looking at my basket. Also a plus point; it looks quite cute when you can see all the stuff sitting in there together.
Having a view is also a must for me. I have my desk facing the window so I can look outside and get some fresh air at the same time. Even if you live in the most boring neighbourhood, looking outside can give you inspiration. It is just a lot nicer than facing a wall, in my opinion. Furthermore, you should keep the desk itself as clear as possible. I have one open box on the side of my desk where I keep some ‘to do’ things and art projects that are a work-in-progress. Again; keeping them in view reminds me that they exist, which makes me do them faster.
The number one tip I would give to all creative people out there; have a set of memo’s on your desk. And I don’t mean the sticky notes but just clear (or colorful, like mine), small sheets of paper. When I have an idea for a blog post, I write it on a note. When I have an idea for a drawing, I make a quick doodle of it on there. When I think of something I still have to do; I use a note. These notes go in my open box and I can organize them later. This way of working works best for me, especially with drawings.

These were just a few tips that will help you with being more productive in your creative workspace. Do let me know what you thought of them! Also, let me know if you like it when I illustrate my articles myself or if you prefer photos (or maybe a combination of both?).

GOT ME SOME GLASSES

2

After trying lenses for quite some time I was completely done with them. They itched, I would always forget to put them in or get them out and I would loose them all the time. Now, my discomfort is over forever because I got glasses! I don’t have to wear them all the time but they can come in handy for driving lessons, watching television, 3D movies or for next year in big lecture rooms.  Continue Reading

CHERSONISSOS

DSCN7745Because this school year was our last year as a high school student (hopefully), me and my friends booked a trip to Chersonissos. To sum up how great it was: sun, sea, beach, going out late, sleeping in late, good food, good music, good people. Sounds great, doesn’t it? In this post I want to show you some photos, tell you about our stay and who my home-made after movie. Warning; you will most likely be convinced Cherso is your next destination at the end of it.

DSCN7607We stayed at Porto Village, where a lot of people from our school were staying as well. We had comfortable apartments with a big yard where we could sit and drink in the evenings. The place had a community pool but it was only a five-minute walk to the beach so we mostly swam in the sea. We even went night swimming once, which was a lot less cold and ever more fun than I had expected it to be.

DSCN7797Our days were mostly spend like this: We would wake up around one o’clock and visit the other rooms to exchange stories from the night before. When everyone was awake and ready (which can take a lot of time with thirteen girls) we headed to the beach. There, we slept some more, swam a little and got ourselves a tan. Around six or seven we went back to the apartment to shower (or swim a bit more in the pool) and then we went for dinner somewhere. When we finished dinner, it was mostly around 11 in the evening and we went back to the apartment again to talk and laugh and drink in the yard. Then, we went out to ‘The Strip’. We danced a lot, had some deep talks and mostly a lot of fun. After that, we went to sleep and repeated it again the next day.

DSCN7608Not very adventures, I have to say. Last year I went Interrailing and this was almost the opposite of that. But it was fun all the same. I think when you’re with good people and the weather is nice, you will most certainly have the time of your life. It was especially fun because we went almost directly after our last exam and there just is no better way to release stress than going on a trip like this.

DSCN7605Also; if you don’t like going out, drinking etc., Cherso is still awesome!  The sea is pretty, the people are nice, the food is good; what is not to like. When you walk around Cherso in daylight it is just like any other touristic place and there are no traces from the wild scenes you may have seen in the Dutch show ‘Oh Oh Cherso’. There were a lot of families on holiday in the week we were there as well as teenagers who just came to party. You can have fun if you want to have fun!

DSCN7881Some fun things you should do while in Cherso:

    1. Go snorkeling. Just take your own snorkeling glasses, go for a swim and discover the underwater world of Crete.
    2. Go to Old-Chersonisos. The old part of town is full of cute restaurants! We went to one were the waiter played drinking games with his guest, which was a lot of fun. We even met Dyna (some dj, apparently famous) because he was eating there as well. None of us knew who he was but the next night he performed in a club. #CoolStoryBro
    3. Drink Cocktails. Does not need a lot of explaining now does it?
    4. Go to Star Beach. A big beach with loud music where you can go on a banana boat, or go para-sailing. Also; there are three parties a week there! (tbh; the first one was the most fun!)
    5. Have a room-diary. We bought a big notebook from the Hema and when people visited our room, they could write a story in there.
    6. Make an after-movie! Here is ours:

So, are you packing your bags yet?
